Loviatar no. 11 Progress Report: Urban Sandbox?

I have been toying around with presenting a city or town in installments, as a kind of urban sandbox. To increase the articles' utility for my personal use I would stat them using D&D 3.5. I hear that there may be a reprint of the 3.5 books, which has me excited. I have a soft spot for that system, despite its complexity.

In deference to my old school sensibilities, I would ask that all starting PCs begin play as lvl. 1 Commoners. Upon reaching second level, PCs could add the Warrior, Expert or the Adept class to reflect their growing skill. Upon reaching third level, PCs could select a regular class, such as Wizard, Fighter, etc. It might work. It might not. Either way, it might be a fun project if I decide to move forward.

  1. Sounds like a great idea to me. I've been tinkering with a western or sci fi or modern sandbox.

  2. I hear the theoretical groaning of my players even without trying that on them... but a nice idea. ;)

"Bad Urach, ... im Herzen der schwäbischen Alb" ???

    1. I expect it to be a tough sell, but it's just one of the three options that I'll pitch. I am ready to be disappointed. :)

That's my journal. It's a recycled book from Germany that has had the cover stripped off and the interior pages replaced with blank sheets of paper. You can pick up a unique book at bookjournals.com.
