Printing Experiment

I recently ordered additional copies of Loviatar no. 5 from my nearby office superstore. Needless to say, I was unhappy with the print quality when I got them home and had a look. I've been doing some thinking and I'm going to resurrect an old experiment.

When I used to publish Scrollworks, I printed issues at home with a duplexing laser printer. I don't recall being able to save much money due to the high cost of toner, but it was convenient and I could achieve the desired print quality. I'm going to give it another try. This time I'm going to carefully keep track of the number of pages I can print on a single cartridge. If the cost per page equals the ten cents I pay at Staples or Office Max, I'll keep doing it.

  2. I don't know for sure if it would be your cheapest choice, but I get my laser toner off ebay. There's always someone selling a new cartridge, super cheap on a Buy It Now and if you're willing to wait on an auction, you can do even better! I do think my particular toner is one of the more common ones, though.

  3. I will definitely give eBay and Buy It Now and a shot. If I can get 1,000 pages off a $100 cartridge, I'll be good to go. My printer's specs claim that a cartridge can yield, 3,500 pages, but I've never gotten anything close to that.

  4. Well, I know I wouldn't mind a handwritten Loviatar.... :) Rally up a bunch of kids in your neighbourhood, give them each a pen and promises of ice cream. I mean, pens are cheap and it doesn't cost a dime to break a promise!

  5. That would be a lot of printer noise. Good luck with your experiment. Hope it works out to your advantage. Just keep those Loviatars coming.
